Audience, open-rate and click figures are each publisher’s own claims, quoted as published on Oct 29, 2026; we have not audited them. “Our math” marks figures we derived (Ben’s Bites price per send = published CPM × published opens). We do not invent prices that are not published.
How much does it cost to sponsor an AI newsletter?
The two largest do not say. The Rundown AI asks for your budget and goals through a form and replies with a custom plan; TLDR builds “a custom proposal” priced by newsletter, placement and number of sends. Ben’s Bites is the exception that publishes unit economics: about $48 per thousand opens for a main ad and $35 for a tool placement, on ~52,000 unique opens per send. That implies roughly $2,500 and $1,800 per send (our math), with 5% to 20% off for booking 2 to 4+ sends. At the small end, There’s An AI For That charges $49 for a basic listing and $437 for a package that includes its newsletter.
Do newsletter ads bring customers to AI startups?
They can bring clicks; whether those clicks pay is your test to run. The publishers point to sponsor quotes (The Rundown says repeat sponsors fill “over 80%” of its calendar; TLDR cites a 20.1x ROI case study). Our own data is about what founders credit for customers. Of the 24 AI businesses with a sourced main channel, none name newsletter ads. Laper lists a newsletter among many channels on its TrustMRR listing. Among the 18 ranked ones, the most common channels are SEO / YouTube (5), TikTok / Instagram (4), Paid ads (Meta) (3).
The paid channel that does show up is Meta ads, for consumer apps: Vid.AI ($47,000 a month), Brawler ($23,000 a month), Marky ($22,200 a month) (verified revenue; channel from each TrustMRR listing). On the other side, TypingMind’s founder reported a $600 paid-ad test that brought 2 conversions, and says most sales come from word of mouth (self-reported, Oct 2025). Postiz’s founder says paid marketing did not work for the closed-source version; Reddit plus open source did (self-reported). See how AI businesses get customers for every sourced channel, and do Meta ads work for AI apps? for the paid-social numbers.
Is a newsletter cheaper per click than other ads?
Ben’s Bites publishes about $6 to $10 per click. TLDR claims advertisers usually get “more clicks, at a lower cost” than non-branded search or LinkedIn ads, and lists “-50% CPC compared to LinkedIn” among its advertiser results. Those are the publishers’ claims, not ours. What matters more for an AI tool is whether a click from a builder audience converts: developer tools and B2B products fit these readers, while the consumer apps in our data name TikTok or Meta ads as their main channel instead.
What should a small AI startup do with $100 to $500?
- Put a tracked link on everything (UTM per placement) so you can compare cost per signup, not cost per click.
- Get listed where buyers search: a $49 directory listing or a free one. See where to list an AI SaaS.
- Be the answer in AI search for your category. See how to get cited by ChatGPT.
- Buy one small, targeted placement before a big one. A $29/mo row on a revenue leaderboard costs about what three clicks cost at Ben’s Bites’ published ≈$10 per click.
- Save the big newsletter for launch week, when you have a reason for readers to click and a page that converts.
