How to get your AI SaaS cited by ChatGPT
What the citation studies say, what companies selling AI visibility actually earn, and what to do this week.

Rank in normal search for the questions your buyers ask, get your brand named on other sites and YouTube, and publish original numbers only you have. In Ahrefs’ 1.4M-prompt study, 88% of the URLs ChatGPT cited came from its search index (Apr 2026). Brand mentions on YouTube (~0.737) and the web (0.66–0.71) correlated with AI visibility far more than Domain Rating (0.266). Buyers already pay for this: AEO Engine makes $179,000 a month and Rank Prompt $40,000 a month selling it (Verified, TrustMRR).
We measure this on our own site. ChatGPT already lands readers on our answer-first lists such as one-person AI businesses and AI SaaS ideas with real revenue (first-party referral logs, Oct 2026). Those pages share the pattern below: a direct first answer, a dated verified-$ table, FAQPage, and ItemList. Our Oct 30, 2026 AEO baseline cited us on 10 of 30 tracked prompts — a measurement, not a traffic claim.

How much do AI visibility (AEO) companies make?
If “get us into ChatGPT” were a fad, nobody would pay for it every month. These three sell it and have payment-verified revenue. Together they make $253,000 a month from 280 paying subscriptions.

Do ChatGPT mentions turn into signups?
The one sourced number we have: Chatbase’s founder posted on Oct 16, 2026 that 37% of all Chatbase signups come from ChatGPT and Claude Self-reported. Chatbase was last verified at $864,000 a month (Jul 31, 2026) before its TrustMRR listing was removed. He also says it ranks on page one of Google for “AI customer support”, which fits the Ahrefs finding that ChatGPT cites what already ranks. We have no verified AI-referral share for any other company, so we do not quote one.
Should you post on Reddit to get into ChatGPT?
Be in the conversation, but do not expect the citation. Ahrefs found ChatGPT retrieves Reddit heavily yet cites it 1.93% of the time, and Reddit’s share of US ChatGPT answers fell from 19.1% in March to 2.3% in September 2026. Reddit Agency still sells this at about $5,000 per client a month, but its MRR fell from $47,800 (8 clients, Oct 14) to $34,800 (7 clients) on its latest read. Reddit works best as a place to be discussed and as a customer channel, as with Postiz (Reddit + open source, self-reported).
Why does original data matter for AI citations?
ChatGPT “seems to be prioritizing original sources over sites that summarize them,” Ahrefs wrote after comparing March and September 2026 citations (via Search Engine Journal, Oct 12, 2026). For an AI startup, the original data is yours: pricing, benchmarks, customer counts and real revenue. A payment-verified revenue figure is the kind of fact other pages quote. What should you do this week?
- Write down 10 questions your buyer would ask ChatGPT (“best AI tool for X”, “X vs Y”, “how much does X cost”). Check who gets named today.

Do backlinks help you get cited by ChatGPT?
Less than brand mentions, by Ahrefs’ correlation data: Domain Rating correlated only 0.266 with ChatGPT visibility, versus 0.66–0.71 for branded web mentions and about 0.737 for YouTube mentions. Correlation is not causation.
Does ChatGPT search the web for every answer?
No. In Ahrefs’ August–September 2026 sample of 66.6 million free, logged-out responses, 14.4% included a web search (Search Engine Journal, Oct 12, 2026). Logged-in and paid users search more often.
